"Faithfulness Guides Me" Wax Seal Necklace

 

I love the symbolisim behind this wax seal charm - It depicts a winged cherub riding the back of a Spaniel with the French motto ”La Fidelite me conduit”  which translates to “Faithfulness Guides Me”.  

In heraldry the dog represents faithfulness and loyalty, a steadfast companion always at your side. Cupid has long been symbolic of love, but cupid atop the Spaniel represents Love being guided by Faith, remaining ever faithful and loyal- what a beautiful statement this pendant makes for a loved one or friend.

French Wax Seal Etui - Napoleon III Era

I thought it was about time I started using this blog to share new items hitting the website! 

I’m going to start with a new series of charms I’ve been making using a beautiful French Wax Seal from the Napoleon III era, circa early 1800′s.  It’s called a wax seal “etui”, which is French for “Case” or “Kit”.  The end of the seal slides open to reveal 14 double sided stamps that are interchangeable with the head of the seal- what a treasure!  I was so lucky to find it and I’m thrilled to share it with you~ I’ll share them, along with their meanings and symbolism, as I list them on the website. They are amazing little pieces of art!
